S260: Fine Antique Swiss "Bears of Berne" Chess Set
Finely hand carved softwood chess set, each piece in the form of a bear. King 9cms (~3.5") tall
These mid 19th century sets from the town of Berne are very charming, this set has a great patina and is in excellent order.
The knights
being particularly well carved with a baby bear as the rider on the larger bear's back. Rooks with lookout bears on top.
