Rare Antique Porcelain Figural Group Napoleon playing chess with Josephine
Made by A.W. Kister, very similar piece with same marking found in German Antique Chess Collector Book Schach Partie (p244)
Finely painted and gilded.
Approx 9" x 5" x 7.5" tall.
The underside has a few marks I cannot make out - on the inner rim underneath there is a mark that is a blue S under the glaze (see photo).
In superb condition, I cannot find any damage or restoration.
Hands, feet, chess set all intact. It is a little dusty.
Very fine piece would be a nice addition to any chess or porcelain collection.
The Schach Partie book is not part of this sale but will include photocopy of relevant reference page.
A similar one sold at Christies in London Dec 2010 fo 2k sterling not including fees etc. See image attached. A great rarity.
